Clear Space announces 'Millie' cast; young talent takes stage Nov. 14-16

October 26, 2014

The Clear Space Theatre Company has announced the cast for its Spotlight on Young Performers production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie JR.” The 2002 Broadway musical was based on the 1967 musical film starring Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore, Beatrice Lily and Carol Channing. It tells the story of Millie Dillmount, a small-town girl who comes to New York City to marry for money instead of love - a thoroughly modern aim in 1922, when women were just entering the workforce.  Millie soon begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel for young ladies, who seem to keep disappearing, owned by the mysterious Mrs. Meers.

The show is directed by Clear Space Company Manager David Button with choreography by Shondelle Graulich of the Delaware Stage School and musical direction by Melanie Bradley.

Spotlight on Young Performers is part of the Clear Space Performing Arts Institute and trains students ages 10 to 18 in acting, dance and voice throughout a 10-week rehearsal process culminating in a full weekend of performances Nov. 14-16.

“Our Young Performers productions are a highlight of the Clear Space season,” says Wesley Paulson, executive director at Clear Space Theatre. “These young performers are the stars of the next generation of actors and actresses. Their performances are always full of energy, and 'Millie' is the perfect story to showcase their talent.”

Starring in the show are Lauren McLane of St. Thomas More Academy as Millie, Kyle Atkinson-Steele of Sussex Tech as Jimmy, Hannah Weilminster of the Metropolitan School of the Arts in Lorton, Va., as the evil Mrs. Meers, Jamie Ditzel of Stephen Decatur High in Berlin, Md., as Miss Dorothy, and Alex Ferree of Delaware Tech as Millie’s boss and love interest, Trevor Graydon.

Other cast members include Danny Keenan, Sussex Central; Daphne Branner, Beacon Middle; E. Cheyenne Epperson, Kennedy Butch and Grace Morris, Southern Delaware School of the Arts; Erin Bradley, North Caroline High, Denton, Md; Evan Hartnett and Claire Marshall, Delmarva Christian HS; Summer Snead, Easton High; Missy Spangler, Ally Ibach and Lily McDaniel, St. Thomas More Academy; Wade Stout and Parker Shawver, Sussex Academy; and Aaron Bradley and Faith Sutton, Cape Henlopen High.
