Climate Crisis: What We Can Do sessions set April 4, 11
The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware, and Mac Goekler and Chris Bason will conduct a two-session course, The Climate Crisis: What We Can Do, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Mondays, April 4 and 11, in person at 30486 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes. The course will also be presented via Zoom. Masks may be required for in-person attendees.
The course is free of charge and open to the public.
Bason, director of the local environmental nonprofit Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, with over 20 years’ experience in ecosystem management and advocacy, will address current crises involving water and land.
Goekler, a retired chemical engineer who has worked on many environmental projects during his career, will focus on air-quality issues.
They will discuss what the federal government needs to do, but also concentrate on what individuals can do to reduce their carbon footprints. Topics include renewable energy sources, carbon offsets and considering the climate effects of one’s actions, such as air travel. The positive effect of growing one’s own vegetables, pursuing hobbies that are carbon-neutral, making meals from scratch to avoid plastic packaging and much more will be covered.
The speakers will also discuss how participants can advocate for the climate and the Earth. Attendees will leave with positive actions they can take to mitigate the climate crisis.
