Ensemble will offer free concert and discussion called 'Wind Power'
February 19, 2015

As the next offering in Coastal Concerts’ Musical Perspectives series, the winds will take center stage in a program titled “Wind Power.” On Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. in the Georgetown Public Library, 123 West Pine St. the undergraduate wind quintet of the University of Delaware, known as the Nota Bene Winds, will demonstrate the expressive power of their instruments and talk about their love of playing together as a group of friends and close colleagues.

The young ensemble, consisting of flutist Stefanie Proulx, oboist Laura Yawney, bassoonist Shari Paltrowitz, horn player Kathryn Marks and clarinetist Kourtney Bastianelli - a 2012 Coastal Concerts scholarship recipient - will offer a program of traditional and contemporary pieces, including Jacques Ibert’s enchanting "Trois Piéces Bréves" and  Astor Piazzolla's dynamic "Libertango" arranged by the Imani Winds. Afterward, the musicians will answer questions about the music, their instruments and their career aspirations.

“We’re really thrilled by this opportunity to be part of Coastal Concerts’ Musical Perspectives,” said Bastianelli. “We look forward to having a great time performing and interacting with the audience.”

Admission is free. For information, call 888-212-6458 or email executivedirector@coastalconcerts.org.

The “Wind Power” presentation by Nota Bene Winds is intended as a youthful complement to Coastal Concerts' regularly scheduled season finale appearance by the highly praised Borealis Wind Quintet at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 21. Tickets for Borealis are on sale now at coastalconcerts.org.
