Daniel Kemoi joins field at Outlet Liquors 5K

September 1, 2022

Dewey Beach runners were in for a treat when Daniel Kemoi, originally from Kenya and now living in Elkton, Md., showed up at the 19th annual Outlet Liquors 5K at Northbeach Aug. 27.

Kemoi made history at the 2019 Blue Cross Broad Street Run by becoming the first racer in more than a decade to get back-to-back first-place finishes.

Winning the Ten Sisters event in 15:26, a 4:58 pace, Kemoli said he will come back Sunday to run in the 10th annual Summer’s End 5K so he can better the fastest time on the Northbeach course held by Brian Fuller (15:06). Runner-up was Darian Sorouri in 16:41, with Ten Sisters regular Joey Andrisani finishing third in 16:48.

Women’s winner and seventh overall finisher was Holly Manning in 18:42. Finishing second for the women was Shannon Kinney in 19:31, with Kara Phelps crossing in 20:32.

First masters finisher and fourth overall was Carl Kinney in 17:05. Taking the women’s masters title was Lisa Chilcote in 22:32.

Jules Woodall continues his Ten Sisters Hall of Fame streak of not missing a race in the series, finishing in 31:40, just in front of his daughter Leah, who finished in 32:38. Tori Zugehar, who runs all the Ten Sisters races with her father Alan, finished in 31:34, but her dad was not able to run due to a broken ankle. Zugehar wore a photo of Dad on a necklace during the race.

The next Races2Run event is the 10th annual Summer’s End 5K on Sunday, Sept. 4, at Northbeach.
