Deborah L. Priddy, dedicated to helping others

February 4, 2025

Deborah L. "Deb" Priddy, whose kind heart and vibrant spirit touched everyone she met, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025.

Born July 14, 1961, in Milford, Deb was a beacon of compassion and dedication. A proud graduate of Cape Henlopen High School in 1979, she pursued her passion for nursing at Nassawadox Nursing School in Virginia, becoming a licensed practical nurse in 1982.

Deb dedicated over 32 years to the State of Delaware, beginning her career at the State Hospital in Wilmington as a nurse. In 1995, she joined Cape Henlopen High School as a paraprofessional, later becoming a job coach with the Sussex Consortium in 2007. In 2018, she embraced the role of transportation specialist, ensuring the department ran smoothly each day with her unwavering commitment.

Her love for the community was evident through her 28 years of service with the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, where she was a life member and acting secretary. A dedicated volunteer, Deb generously gave her time, from supporting the Special Olympics to crafting for local events. Her creativity shone through the crafts, wreaths, and costumes she lovingly made. Deb continued to make a meaningful impact by donating her organs and tissues to Gift of Life.

Deb's quick wit and fiery spirit made her the life of every gathering. Her laughter was infectious, and her home was always filled with joy and warmth. She cherished her family deeply, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her sons, Nicholas A. Priddy and Jordan T. Priddy; daughter-in-law, Nicole Carroll; cherished grandchildren, Anastasia, William and Matthew Priddy; sister, Lora Wagner; brothers, Michael “Mike” Simpler (wife Kim) and Andy Simpler (wife Marvina); and her faithful dog, Tinkerbell. Deb is also fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William T. Simpler and Mary Jane Swain; and brother-in-law, Donald A. Wagner Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, at Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, 219 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where friends may visit beginning at 4:30 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cape Henlopen High School Mentors or Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, causes close to Deb's heart.

As we honor Deb's compassionate, resilient, supportive, and kind nature, let us carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and service to others.
