Bob McGinnis, post quartermaster and 30-year member of VFW Post 7447 Rehoboth Beach, was honored Aug. 12 by the Delaware Department of the VFW with the Post Power Player Award.
Thomas DiOrrio, commander of the VFW Department of Delaware, presented the award to McGinnis, a two-time post commander, post judge advocate, past board president and current board treasurer.
DiOrrio said that McGinnis’ dedication, perseverance and commitment to the post have resulted in its success.
“Bob not only guided the post out of financial difficulty; he shepherded the post through transition to nonsmoking as well as overseeing the integration of men into the post auxiliary,” DiOrrio said. “His consistent leadership, personal rapport with members and tireless work ethic on behalf of our veterans and members make him an invaluable asset.”
DiOrrio said McGinnis has breathed life back into the VFW program and assured patriotic holidays are observed, and that McGinnis’ relationship with the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce resulted in the post’s participation in the Beach Goes Red, White & Blue and the fundraiser 5K Run for Vets.
McGinnis has also established relationships and post participation in charitable events such as the Polar Bear Plunge and Boardwalk BuddyWalk, DiOrrio said.
“He is an integral part of VFW Post 7447 and we’re proud to recognize his contributions,” DiOrrio said.
DiOrrio also surprised Senior Vice Post Officer Everett Beach with an award for achieving All State Commander during his term as commander last year; Post 7447 also presented Beach with a jacket in recognition of the award.
“This post should do very well with the leadership it has,” DiOrrio said.
