Dewey Business Partnership hosts successful canoe races and picnic

August 4, 2023

The Dewey Business Partnership has been steadily hosting summer events, and its most recent one, the July 18 DBP Town Employee Picnic, saw more than 80 lifeguards, ambassadors, police and town employees stop by to enjoy lunch.

Food was provided by Bethany Blues, Starboard Sauced and Woody's owner Jimmy O'Conor, who showed up to flip burgers and grill hot dogs for the group.

“Events like these create so much camaraderie in the town, and this is part of our mission in helping build those community ties,” said Kelly Ranieri, Dewey Business Partnership executive director.

The 10th Annual Canoe Races took place July 11 in Dewey, where businesses competed against one another. This year’s teams were: Bethany Blues, Lighthouse, Woody's Dewey Beach, Nalu, Rehoboth Beach Running Company, Rusty Rudder, The Starboard, Starboard Claw, Paradise Grill and Dewey Post.

The businesses competed in teams of four, with two at a time rowing out, around a buoy and back to switch crews for the second round. The final race went down between Paradise Grill and Nalu, and while the event was competitive, no one could seem to contend with the sheer might of the canoeing team from Nalu. The restaurant took the title for the 10th year. Nalu team members are once again the canoe race champs of Dewey Beach.

DBP encourages the people of Dewey Beach to come and participate in a variety of events and help cultivate that unique Dewey way of life vibe.
