Disappointed with land-use panel choices

March 14, 2025

I was surprised to see that the new members of the Sussex County land-use panel included four developer/real estate personnel whose purpose is, as we know, to promote more building, development and home sales.

There is also a chief engineer from DelDOT and a representative from the Office of State Planning Coordination. We presently have evidence of their unsatisfactory work all around us in southern Sussex County. I noticed that no residents were included in the panel; long-term residents who have a vision of what an environmentally attractive and safe neighborhood should look like.

I hope to gather some of these residents to compile a list of recommendations for our communities and submit them to the panel, to include a list of the disturbing planning practices and decisions that have created the environment in which we now live. Sadly, we may be well past the point of intelligent growth, considering the continuing proliferation of poorly planned developments, disregard for the environment, out-of-control traffic jams, poorly designed intersections, giant billboards and real estate sales signs everywhere.
