The fourth-seeded Sussex Tech Ravens’ softball season came to an end May 26 with a 2-0 loss to fifth-seeded Delaware Military Academy in Georgetown.
DMA pitcher Delani Sheehan threw the shutout for the visiting Seahawks, striking out five while giving up seven hits.
Sophomore Taylor Wroten threw a three-hitter from the circle for the Ravens, striking out four and walking one.
Sophomore Kayla Booros went 2-for-3 to lead the Ravens from the plate with a double and a single. Brooke Ward, Jenna Tate, Alyssa Collins, Wroten and Jenna Calloway each added a single.
Alexus Johnson hit a triple with an RBI, while Alexis Novotny had an RBI single for the Seahawks.
“We didn’t capitalize on the opportunities we had,” said senior first baseman Rylee Shockley. “Their pitcher was good. She had a good change-up that kept us off balance. We just didn’t pick good pitches to hit. Defensively, we played well. We just didn’t hit her like we should have.”
“We weren’t hitting like we have been the entire season,” said senior outfielder Jenna Tate. “We left a lot of people on base.”
The Ravens finished their season 16-4. The DMA Seahawks lost to Delmar 6-2 in the semifinals to finish the season at 15-6.
