Donald L. Warner, talented shooter
Donald "Donnie" L. Warner, 75, of Lewes passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes. He was born April 21, 1946, in Summit, N.J., son of the late Lauren and Ruth (Gardinier) Warner.
Donnie honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years as an aircraft maintenance specialist. He embarked on a lifelong career at the Playtex Corp. in Dover, retiring after more than 30 years. Donnie was an avid and talented shooter and could often be found practicing his skills at Shooters Choice in Dover. He was a member of Old Paths Church of Christ in Georgetown, where he was active in their men’s group, Bible studies, and enjoyed fellowship. Donnie loved taking road trips with his wife and going on church retreats around the Mid-Atlantic area. He also enjoyed watching drag racing, riding bikes, walking around Cape Henlopen State Park, and kayaking with his family. Donnie had a kind and gentle spirit and was always looking for opportunities to help his community. Most of all, Donnie was loving and devoted to his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Warner. He is survived by his son, Richard D. Wix Jr. of Smyrna; his daughter, Stephanie A. Pusey and her husband Dean of Ocean View; his sister, Doris Innes and her husband Richard of Wall Township, N.J.; his grandchildren: Alexis Swanson and her husband Jesse of Ocean View, Chelsea Wix, David Wix, and Brooke Wix, all of Smyrna, Kayte Plitko and her husband Rob of Frankford, Shelby Goldstein and her husband Josh of Ocean View, and Chris Pusey and his wife Dasha of Ocean View; his nieces: Kimberly Carletta of River Vale, N.J., and Kristin Garafalo and her husband Joseph of Jackson, N.J.; and his great-niece, Gemma Garafalo.
Donnie and Doris were a team, and after 21 loving years together, it is fitting they will be laid to rest together following a joint service.
A viewing for Donnie and Doris will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 20, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, and again from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
Interment with Military Honors will follow the services at 1 p.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, masks are required, and social distancing must be observed by all persons attending or participating in any aspect of the services.
