Driver found dead in burning car near Lincoln
Delaware State Police are investigating after finding a driver deceased in a burning car near Lincoln.
A 1995 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound on Greentop Road, just south of Bunting Avenue at 9:14 a.m., Jan. 28, when for unknown reasons, the Blazer caught fire while still in motion, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police. The driver exited the east edge of the roadway into a grassy area, where it came to a controlled stop before becoming completely engulfed in flames, she said. The driver attempted to exit the vehicle but was unsuccessful and was located deceased in the driver seat. The body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for identification.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal responded to the scene and determined the fire started in the dashboard/firewall area of the vehicle.
The roadway was closed for about 3 hours as the investigation was completed.
