Easter Bunny arrives by boat in Lewes
Friends of Canalfront Park give away 11,000 eggs to large crowd of excited children
April 4, 2024
The Friends of Canalfront Park sponsored the annual Bunny Bonanza March 28 at the downtown Lewes park. What makes the event unique is that the Easter Bunny arrives by boat thanks to the Freedom Boat Club Sea Sisters.
The Sea Sisters decorated a pontoon boat as the bunny’s official escort. This year’s event was attended by at least 2,000 people.
The event featured face painting, egg painting, the Jelly in the Belly Contest, 11,000 candy- and sticker-filled eggs, and kids’ mini-tennis with coach Pat Breen. Organizer David Shook said since the Kite Festival was canceled, the Lewes Chamber of Commerce donated its 5,000 eggs to the event, which he added to the Friends’ 6,000 eggs.
It’s not every Easter Bunny who travels by boat. Thanks to Freedom Boat Club, that’s how he arrived in Lewes via the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal during the March 30 Bunny Bonanza at Canalfront Park.
Escorted by the Freedom Boat Club Sea Sisters, the Easter Bunny arrives on a pontoon boat at Canalfront Park.
Organizers estimate that at least 2,000 people took part in the Bunny Bonanza at Lewes Canalfront Park on March 30.
Families gather on the Canalfront Park docks in anticipation of the Easter Bunny’s arrival along the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.
The Easter Bunny does a lot of high-fives as he makes his way down the dock after leaving his escort boat.
