Elizabeth 'Betty' Davies, life of the party
Elizabeth “Betty” Davies, 87, a former Girardville, Pa. resident, passed away peacefully at home in Ashland, Pa., early Tuesday morning, March 1, 2016.
Born in Freeland, Pa., Betty was the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Paletsky) Koziel. She was a graduate of the former Girardville High School Class of 1946, and was the class valedictorian. In 1950, Betty married Charles S. Davies, who passed away in 2005.
Betty was a loyal wife, beloved mother and grandmother to her extended family. She appreciated a good crossword puzzle, and cherished the time with her grandchildren. When vacationing to Rehoboth Beach, Betty was always the life of the party. She was a member of the former St. Vincent de Paul Church, Girardville, now the St. Charles Borromeo R. C. Parish, Ashland. In her younger years, Betty was a den mother for her son with the Girardville Cub Scouts.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles H. Davies; granddaughter Shiela Davies; son-in- law Vincent Puglia; three brothers, John, Joseph and Francis Koziel; and two sisters, Mary Miller and Dolores Rudiman.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Sue Puglia of Ashland and Cathy Davies-Harmon, wife of Darren Harmon, of Rehoboth Beach; nine grandchildren, Vincent Puglia, husband of Jennifer, King of Prussia, Pa., Jeffrey Puglia, husband of Andrea of Milford, Dominic Puglia, husband of Karen of Gordon, Pa., Charles Davies, husband of Sasha, Girardville, Chase Harmon of Rehoboth Beach, Hunter Harmon of Rehoboth Beach, Charlotte, wife of Adam Czeponis of Ashland, Kimberly, wife of Samuel Burrows of Milford, and Elise Harmon of Rehoboth Beach; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday March 5, at 11 a.m., in the St. Vincent De Paul Worship Center of the St. Charles Borromeo R. C. Church, 2nd and Mahanoy Ave., Girardville, with the Rev. John W. Bambrick, celebrant. A calling hour will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Interment will be at Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
A Celebration of the Life of Betty Davies will be held in Rehoboth Beach at a later date for her many friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Bookshelf at the Ashland Public Library, 1233 Centre St., Ashland PA 17921, or a charity of choice that will make a positive difference in the world.
