January 23, 2024
A Sussex County emergency services vehicle caught fire Jan. 22 in a Milton garage.
The fire was reported about 5 p.m. in a detached carport on Broadkill Road, officials said. A Sussex County paramedic was treated and released at an area hospital as a precaution after attempting to extinguish the fire and move another vehicle to safety. There were no other reported injuries, officials said.
The fire was determined to have originated in the rear of a parked vehicle and was accidental in nature, caused by an unknown electrical malfunction, said Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal John Galaska.
Damage is estimated at $100,000, he said.
