English as a Second Language online classes to start Sept. 7

August 11, 2021

Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach will host English as a Second Language classes online from Tuesday, Sept. 7 to Thursday, Nov. 8. Morning classes will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., and evening classes meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is a $25 fee for the virtual classes, to be held via Zoom.

In operation since 2004, the ESL Program sponsored by the Lutheran Church of Our Savior is the largest of its kind in Sussex County. Classes for adults at proficiency levels from beginner to advanced are offered and focus on social interaction, vocabulary and conversation, grammar, writing and reading comprehension.

“Our virtual classes were a great success last year during the pandemic. Enthusiastic participation by our dedicated teachers and students has furthered our mission to help improve the lives and opportunities of Sussex County non-English speakers by offering affordable and accessible English language instruction. We are especially grateful to our generous funders: Arsht-Cannon Foundation, Longwood Foundation, Delaware Community Foundation, Sussex County government, Harry K Foundation, Hank Willoughby Scholarship Fund, and SoDel Cares, who have helped enable us to continue those efforts,” said Denise Jacono, the new program director.

Online registration for all students opens Monday, Aug. 16. To register, go to lcosrehoboth.org. For more information or to volunteer, contact Denise Jacono at lcosesl@gmail.com or 302-515-4385.
