Fiber artist Sarah Pavlik exhibiting at Peninsula Gallery
Local fiber artist Sarah Pavlik has brought her unique, whimsical art quilts to the Peninsula Gallery for the month of March as the first Guest Artist of 2023.
Guest Artist is an event produced by Peninsula Gallery to highlight the work created by different artists. The lineup of participants includes repeat exhibitors and artists entirely new to the space. Sarah Pavlik is a fiber and quilt artist whose artistic process typically involves using a motif or configuration in creating a work and exploring its possibilities by improvising. She strives for figure-ground tension and a composition that encourages the viewer to move their eyes around the piece, finding interest throughout. Once the piece is completed, it is quilted, typically with dense amounts of stitching to complement the design. Making art quilts requires both creative thought and expertise in the construction process. Pavlik continually explores new territory by working in a series, modifying piece after piece. She continues to evolve as an artist pushing herself to create new work in her own artistic voice.
Pavlik has nine small to medium-sized quilts on display in the gallery. The colorful fiber pieces utilize a variety of quilt-making and artistic techniques to create intriguing abstract works. Because of the tactile nature of the quilts, Pavlik’s pieces have a three-dimensional nature, allowing viewers to experience different aspects of the works. They can be previewed at peninsula-gallery.com and will be on the Guest Artist wall through March.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, in the Village Shoppes at the Beacon Inn, 520 East Savannah Rd., Lewes.
