A far-less-developed Fenwick Island from mid-20th century

July 28, 2020

This picture postcard from the mid-20th century shows a far less developed and commercial Fenwick Island than we know today. Prominent in both segments of the postcard is the Fenwick Island Lighthouse which dates back to 1859 and stands along the Maryland side of the 1751 Trans-Peninsular Line, which is now known as Delaware’s southern border with Maryland.

Joe Boyle donated a collection of more than 1,000 postcards to the Delaware Public Archives.
