Firefly Music Festival announces return

Firefly Music Festival will make its return to the Woodlands in Dover from Thursday to Sunday, Sept. 23 to 26.

Details on tickets and artists have not been announced.

The festival was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Not much was known about the festival’s future until late March when the fireflyfestival.com website was updated to announce the return of the event this fall. 

Nick Trentacost, director of marketing for the Great Lakes region of Firefly owner AEG Presents, said at this time, the company can only share the event dates. He said more information will be forthcoming on the festival website.

The announcement of Firefly’s return came just after Gov. John Carney announced his amendment to the state’s COVID-19 emergency order, allowing outdoor gatherings of 150 people or more with a plan approved by Delaware Division of Public Health. 

Jennifer Brestel, DPH spokeswoman, said, “Firefly organizers AEG reached out to the state regarding their interest, and DPH has been in communication with them. Event organizers are aware they will need a formal plan approval from the agency before the event takes place. We do not have a specific timeline currently, but DPH will continue to actively work with the organizers to ensure their plan meets all necessary health and safety requirements, and the necessary mitigation and safety measures are in place.”

Firefly canceled the 2020 festival shortly after the state went on lockdown in March 2020. The 2020 festival was to have been headlined by Rage Against The Machine, Billie Eilish, Halsey, Blink-182 and Khalid.
