Each Memorial Day for the past seven years, members of the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club have joined the Flags for Heroes project to honor veterans, active-duty military and first responders. As with many other things, this year is different. The more than 480 U.S. flags along Kings Highway, Lewes, are flying in tribute to healthcare workers, police and other first responders, grocery store and restaurant workers, delivery drivers, educators and volunteers who are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.
The flags will fly in front of the Cape Henlopen School District administration office the week before and the week after Memorial Day. Then, they will fly again for two weeks around Veterans Day in November. Sponsorships for the Veterans Day flags are available at FlagsForHeroes-LRRC.com.
