Florence A. Adams, adored her family

Florence A. (Pettyjohn) Adams, 90, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones.

Florence was born and raised in Georgetown, daughter of the late Luther and Jenny (Allen) Pettyjohn. Prior to his passing, Florence lived for several years in the Long Neck area of Millsboro with her husband, John O. Adams.  

Many years ago, Florence worked as a receptionist with Murray Motors.  She worked as a cosmetologist for eight years and would also substitute in the cafeteria for Indian River School District.   

While living in Millsboro, Florence was a member of Indian River Yacht Club, served as rear commodore in the 1970s, and former member of  Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 28.  She enjoyed bowling and bowled on several leagues over the years at Milford and Dover Bowling Lanes.  Florence was a huge fan of Little League and was well-known for her keeping the umpires straight at any sporting event.

Above all else, Florence adored her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she supported with love through every endeavor throughout their life from birth to school, sports, adulthood, and life events, she was there for them.

In addition to her parents, Florence is preceded in death by her husband John O. Adams; son Derek Adams; grandson Jeremy Adams; son Isaac “Bunk” Adams; and her siblings.

She is survived by a son, Eric Adams (Karen); two grandsons, Kris Adams (Mindy) and Jamie Adams; a granddaughter, Jennifer Milligan (Heather); seven great-grandchildren, Kellan Adams, Hailey Adams, Kasen Adams, McKinley Adams, Maddie Adams, Landan Milligan, and baby boy Milligan due to make his arrival in December; a special niece to whom she was close, Susan Murray; sisters-in-law, Evie Parker and Sylvia “Annie” Turner; brothers-in-law, Wilbur Adams and Martin Adams; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; and her beloved Peekapoo, Lady, who never left her side.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23, at Cokesbury Cemetery, 15092 Cokesbury Road, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, Florence had requested memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, cancer.org.
