Francis V. O’Meara, proud Army veteran
Francis V. O’Meara, 90, of Lewes, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at Beebe Healthcare. He was born July 3, 1931, in Washington, D.C, son of the late Elijah M. and Margaret C. (Barry) O’Meara.
Mr. O’Meara was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having fought in the Korean War, and was honorably discharged rising to the rank of corporal. He made his career as a digital engineer, working for Verizon, from which he retired after many years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and attended Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro.
He and his wife, June, relocated from Carroll County, Md. to Lewes, spending the past 24 years at Angola by the Bay. Francis enjoyed being involved in his community as a member of the Owls Men’s Social Group at Angola by the Bay. Above all, he cherished the time spent with those he held most dear to him. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend; he will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate to have known him.
In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his brother, Reid O'Meara; and by his sister, Mary Margaret O'Meara. In addition to his beloved wife, June E. (Haynie) O’Meara, he is survived by his sons, Michael S. O’Meara (Jean) of Carroll County, Gregory A. Boring (Donna) of Catonsville, Md., and Steven J. Boring of Lewes; six beloved grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, of whom he was so proud.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 14, at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Mask wearing is required and social distancing must be observed by all service attendees and participants. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Dr., Lewes, where family and friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Chapel committal services with military honors will immediately follow at 1 p.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
