Gerald William Baker Sr., Perdue Farms retiree

Gerald William Baker Sr., affectionally known as “Bill” or “Pop,” passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at TidalHealth PRMC in Salisbury, Md.  He was 83 years old.

Bill was born June 23, 1939, in Dagsboro, to the late William W. Baker, Jr. and Ruth Donaway Baker.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Janet Wharton Baker, his second wife Judith Ann, as well as his sister June Powell.

He retired from Perdue Farms, where he worked as a truck driver for many years. During his career, he also drove for Showell Poultry. Bill was a dedicated, lifetime member of Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Baltimore Orioles, especially Cal Ripken Jr. 

Bill had four children, Crystal L. LaCourt (deceased), Lesa R. Handy (Rodney), Gerald William Baker II (Marge) and Timothy E. Baker (Dawn); and two bonus sons, Jimmy Draper (Andrea) and Elwood Wharton (Vicki); one bonus daughter, Christine Wharton; eight grandchildren, Vincent LaCourt (Erika), Stacey Baker, Jeremey Baker, Jerry LaCourt (Amanda), Frank Harris (Bernice), Bradley Harris, Brooke Zwiebel (Matthew) and Madison Baker; six bonus grandchildren, Breanna Wharton, Andrea Richardson, Erika Seward-Wharton, Elyse Salas (Chris), Jacob Draper and Josiah Drape; and six great-grandchildren, Laila Carrero (deceased), Kayla LaCourt, Reagan Brown, Tessa LaCourt, Christopher LaCourt and Jackson Harris. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, bonus great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s memory to Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department.
