Golden retrievers meet at the beach for semi-annual gathering

Pet parade, yappy hours, beach romp highlight Dewey's Golden Jubilee
October 8, 2023

Hundreds of golden retrievers and their families returned to Dewey and Rehoboth beaches Sept. 29-Oct. 1 for a weekend of fun and fundraising.

The gathering kicked off with the Gold Rush Parade in Rehoboth Friday night, when costumed pets and families met at Lake Gerar Park and proceeded through town. The next morning, goldens descended on the bay beach in Dewey for a romp in the sand and sea.

The event supports the Morris Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, which works to identify nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in dogs.

Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on more than 3,000 enrolled golden retrievers.

The Golden Jubilee will return in May. For more information, go to deweysgoldenjubilee.com.
