Gordy Owens Swift, highly respected man

Gordy Owens Swift, 81, of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2022. He was born Sept. 25, 1941, in Bishopville, Md., son of the late Gordy Swift and Emma Swift Walker.

Gordy was a man highly respected, and loved by family, friends and the community. His work ethic, integrity, loyalty and sweet nature are what made him so special. He was a God-fearing man. He loved his extended church family and gospel music, and we know he is with the Lord.

Gordy was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty; his sister, Pauline Crowder; his stepbrother, Paul Walker; his son-in-law, Grant Smith; his daughter-in-law, Missy Swift; and his fiancée, Carol Murray. He is survived by his children: Joe Gray (Gisela), Dawn Rogers (Brooke), Lisa Swift, Fran Swift, Bill Swift and Norman Swift (Sherry). Gordy was adored by his 10 grandchildren:  David Swift (Kim), Steven Gray (Faith), Nicole Hines, Samantha Welch (John), James Bradley (Heather), Wendy Evans (Ben), Amy Kuehl (Tyler), Emily Martinez (Alec), Josh Swift and Jacob Swift. He was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may call beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, 25153 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Gordy's memory to Gumboro Wesleyan Church, 36842 Millsboro Hwy., Millsboro, DE 19966.
