Representatives from the Governors Condominium Association presented a check for $1,500 to Lewes Fire Department officials at the firehouse Jan. 17.
The money, raised from donations made at community happy hours and other events, is a way for Governors homeowners to thank the volunteers and career staff at the firehouse for their work protecting and aiding Lewes-area residents and businesses.
“We love living here, and we are very grateful for the business and community organizations that make Lewes such a wonderful place to spend time with our families and friends, and enjoy our new homes,” said Rick Hanson, Governors board of directors president.
The community, which is nearing completion, is near the intersection of Kings Highway and Gills Neck Road just outside Lewes.
The Governors board also made donations of $1,500 each to Lewes in Bloom and the Lewes library. Homeowners voted to support these three organizations in 2022.
In 2023, the community voted to support the Children’s Beach House and Humane Animal Partners, which held a dog adoption event at the community clubhouse during the Governors Oktoberfest celebration last fall.
“We are grateful to Governors for stepping up to support our work here,” said Richard G. Bunting Jr., Lewes Fire Department president. “We responded to more than 900 fire calls and 6,000 emergency medical requests in 2022. As our wonderful community continues to grow, we are thankful for organizations that understand that the need is great.”
