Grand jury: Man carjacked, kidnapped Seaford woman

A Maryland man who has been in custody in connection with the carjacking and kidnapping of a Seaford woman, 80, Jan. 13 has now been indicted on those charges.

A federal grand jury in Wilmington returned an indictment May 23 charging Ralph Harmon, 24, of Salisbury, Md., with violent carjacking and interstate kidnapping.

The woman was in the driveway of her Seaford home about 10 a.m. when Harmon physically assaulted her and tied her up, said Seaford police in a previous news release. 

Harmon put the woman in her car, and drove to a Salisbury residence, where she was found and taken to a hospital, police said. The woman was treated for her injuries and released.

The Indictment states that the carjacking resulted in serious bodily injury to the woman.

Police eventually found the stolen vehicle near E. Main Street in Salisbury. At the time, police said, several people fled the vehicle, but they were able to catch Harmon. 

After his arrest, Harmon was charged by Maryland State Police in connection with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted murder, kidnapping, first-degree assault, third-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense, robbery, armed robbery, resisting arrest and theft.

Harmon has been held in Wicomico County Detention Center without bail. 

If convicted of the latest charges, he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment for the kidnapping and 25 years in prison for the carjacking.
