Historic Lewes Farmers Market sets raffle drawings Sept. 3
The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, at George H.P. Smith Park.
Evans Farms’ Frozen Farmer ice cream truck will be back on site with its fabulous ice cream and sorbets by the scoop, and frozen fruit smoothies.
Saturday is the last chance for customers to enter the HLFM Big Raffle, as the winning tickets will be pulled at 11:30 a.m. The three stupendous prizes are each valued at $1,000: Jazz Fest weekend tickets and dinner; the Fabu-Lewes-Feast including eight $125 restaurant gift cards; and a private, in-home three-course chef dinner with wine pairing for 10 by Chef Sean Corea. The winner does not have to be present at the drawing. All proceeds go to support the market.
It is also the last day for customers to enter the HLFM Bicycle Giveaway to win a bright-green Electra Cruiser 1 Step-Thru with a cushy seat, smooth-rolling tires and no-slip pedals. The bike was selected from Lewes Cycle Sports and purchased at their store at 526 E. Savannah Road, Lewes. The Historic Lewes Farmers Market sponsors this raffle to encourage everyone who is able to bike or walk to the market. The winner will be announced at 11 a.m.
In case of inclement weather, the market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road. The Wednesday Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is open weekly with 11 great farmers from 8 to 11 a.m. through Sept. 28. Dogs at the markets must be under control on a six-foot, non-retractable leash.
Lima beans and fresh ginger come to market this week. There are also freshly picked figs, raspberries, pears, peaches, green beans, wax pole beans, beets, onions, garlic, cucumbers and all types of peppers including Shishito. Tomatoes are still at market including Roma and many other varieties. Shoppers can plan to have a clambake with young red potatoes, sweet corn, and clams, all available at the market. There are also eggplant, cantaloupes, watermelons, sweet corn, yellow squash, fall squashes, arugula, lettuces, pork sausages, chops and ribs, tilapia fish, oysters, live crabs, hand-picked crab meat, crabcakes, crab salad, grass-fed chicken and beef (ground beef, filet mignon, New York strip, sirloin, skirt, flank and Bavette steaks), honey, mushrooms, eggs, yogurt, milk, butter, ice cream, kombucha, jams, fresh-baked breads, pastries made with fruit from market vendors, herb, veggie and flower plants, cut-flower bouquets including sunflowers, locally roasted coffee and coffee drinks, and more.
The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is producer-only, so customers are able to buy directly from the farmer who grew the produce.
Children’s Storytime at the Market, a partnership with the Lewes Public Library, takes place at 10 a.m. Library volunteers read books about farming, gardening, nature and healthy eating at the yellow tent near the HLFM Information Tent.
The market processes SNAP, WIC and SFMNP, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Customers may go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.
The HLFM continues its food pantry purchase program. Market customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk and other food from growers at the market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to various food pantries including Epworth church and Casa San Francisco. The market team thanks customers for their generosity.
The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont Avenue will be open for handicap drop-off and pickup.
