Huxtable needs to fulfill promises to Anthem community

August 30, 2022

I was impressed by the support from several Sussex Countians in the Aug. 26-29 edition’s letters to the editor for the candidacy of Russ Huxtable for the Democratic nomination to the 6th District Senate seat. According to these citizens, Mr. Huxtable has what it takes to be a fighter for the best interests of our coastal district.

However, before he potentially enters a bigger and brighter political future, he should fulfill the promises he has already made, specifically to the homeowners of the Anthem community regarding the completion of their open-space area. I purchased a premium lot bordering this open space, which was sold to me by Ryan Homes as being developed by Mr. Huxtable as a dry meadow. Instead, the area stands with a wet swale running down the middle, and without the promised drainage system that would adequately dry out the area after rainfall. Somehow, a county engineer allowed a change to this development plan without a required signature from the county planning director.

A lot of finger-pointing among county officials has followed in the two years since the change was made to the plans, while we homeowners are left with an open area that is less than what we were promised and a growing concern that we have been done wrong along the way. I respectfully call on Mr. Huxtable to do right by his potential constituents now and honor his original plan to develop this open space with the planned drainage to create a dry meadow.
