Interfaith group to hold virtual Climate Conversation Feb. 27

Delaware Interfaith Power & Light will host a virtual Climate Conversation from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, with a panel of change-makers from Delaware discussing how to address food waste in schools, congregations and the community.

Food Waste, Climate Change & Food Insecurity is part of Delaware IPL’s Climate Conversation program in which people from all walks of life talk about climate solutions, make them relatable to everyday life, and share ways to create a more efficient future, one that better serves this planet and its people. Attendees will include faith community members, local elected officials, government officials and other interested parties.

More than one-third of this country’s food is wasted while millions of Americans go hungry each day, making food waste one of today's biggest paradoxes. Producing a year’s worth of lost food amounts to enough energy and water to supply 50 million homes, and contributes to organic materials being the most common component in landfills. The efforts that communities and organizations carry out to reduce these waste factors are paramount to saving money, tackling food insecurity and reducing carbon emissions.

Panelists for the discussion will be Brigid Gregory, Delaware Community Composting program director, Zero Waste First State/Plastic Free DE; Michael Chajes, University of Delaware Honors College dean; Chad Robinson, Food Bank of Delaware external affairs director; and Geri Bosley, Epworth United Methodist Church Food Ministry.

The Climate Conversation program is funded by Energize Delaware. Although these events are free, contributions are accepted to support ongoing climate efforts; the suggested donation is $10 or more. Monthly donations allow Delaware IPL to take a planned, long-term approach to community actions, and support mobilizing communities of faith and conscience to advocate for bold and just climate action in Delaware.
