James C. Windsor, successful businessman

James C. Windsor passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, from complications from a brief illness.
 
He was born March 10, 1938, son of James B. Windsor and Della E. Hastings. He married Janet Atwell in 1959, and they shared 63 years together and had five children. Jay graduated from Laurel High School in 1956 and then from the University of Delaware. He began his career in agriculture with Libby Frozen Foods, then in horticulture at the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Service as a county agent. Through the extension service, he had the opportunity to teach for the university and serve as an advisor to the Master Gardeners Program, among others. Jay started Lakeside Greenhouses in 1972, and added Windsor's Flowers in Rehoboth and Lewes in 1973. His children grew up in the business and have taken over with Jill and her husband Craig running Lakeside, and James and Jennifer running the Rehoboth location. Jay loved every aspect of the operation and continued to work in the greenhouses and his woodshop daily.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Della Hastings and James B. Windsor; his stepparents, Lucille Windsor and Paul B. Hastings; two children, Jamie Beth and Josh Clayton; his sister, Nancy; and brother, Clarke. He is survived by his wife, Janet Windsor; children, Jill and son-in-law Craig, Jennifer and James; grandchildren, Fallon and her husband Jonathan, Craig and his fiancée Mairin, Seona, Clayton, Robert and his wife Caite, Tyler and his fiancée Wanda; great-grandchildren, Wren, Beck and Kaia; three brothers, Steve Hastings and his wife Jeanne, Gary Hastings, and John and Karen Abbott; sister-in-law, Marcia Abbott; brother-in-law, Michael Klein, and several nieces and nephews.
 
A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 W. Market St., Laurel.  A celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. Pastor Dean Perdue will officiate.
