James W. Harris Jr., licensed captain

July 4, 2016

James W. Harris Jr., 53, of Millsboro passed away late Thursday morning, June 30, 2016, surrounded by loved ones.

Born June 28, 1963, in Wilmington, he was the son of James and Nancy Harris (Thompson). Known amongst friends as “little Jimmy,” he spent most of his early years working alongside his father running the family business, Harris Construction Co. He was a hard worker and a better fisher. One of his proudest accomplishments, besides being a father, was achieving his lifelong dream of obtaining his captain’s license. James was also only three flight hours away from receiving his pilot’s license. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and a giver to many charities, he was ambitious, excelled in math, his career in construction and any endeavor he put his mind to. Aside from his many accomplishments, Jimmy was a devoted father, loving brother, grandfather and friend. Those that truly knew him, know he was a selfless, kind, giving man with a big heart.

James is survived by his daughter, Brittany Baldwin (Harris); son-in-law Kyle Baldwin; three grandchildren whom he adored, Camren, Corbin and Adrian Baldwin; Robert Abbott, whom he loved as a son; his sisters, Anna Harris and Kathleen Harris-Lawrence; nieces and nephew, Brianna and Carlie Harris, and Krista and Chuck Lawrence; along with five aunts; two uncles; and 13 cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday July 9, at Pot-Nets, Lakeside Community Center, 33076 Rock Cove, Millsboro, in Long Neck at 2 p.m. with a repass to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to his daughter Brittany Baldwin.
