Jane Goodall book discussion set Jan. 4

December 29, 2021

The Lewes Public Library’s young environmentalist club, Roots & Shoots, will present a prerecorded interview and book discussion with global icon Dr. Jane Goodall at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, online via Zoom and in person at the library.

Goodall was interviewed by Linda Berdine, who will moderate the event. During the interview, Goodall discusses her new book, “The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times,” as well as the Lewes Public Library’s Roots & Shoots program. Local members of Roots & Shoots are also featured in the interview and will conduct a panel discussion about the group following the interview.

To register for the event, go to lewes.lib.de.us and visit the adult programs page. Registrants must select Zoom or in-person attendance.

“The Book of Hope” by Goodall and co-author Douglas Abrams explores one of the most sought-after and least-understood elements of human nature: Hope. Filled with moving and inspirational stories and photographs from Goodall’s remarkable career, it is a deeply personal conversation with one of the world’s most beloved figures.

For the past 30 years, Goodall has been speaking about the threats facing chimpanzees, other environmental crises and her reasons for hope that humankind will solve the problems it has imposed on the earth.

The Lewes Public Library started its Roots & Shoots chapter in 2019 to foster respect and compassion for all living things, as well as inspire individuals to take action to make the world a place that is more sustainable, more environmentally sound and better to live in.

Copies of the book with a special bookplate signed by Goodall will be available for purchase from Browseabout Books at the event. Browseabout is generously donating a portion of the book sales to the library’s Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots Chapter.

Orders may also be placed online at browseaboutbooks.com, by calling the store at 302-226-2665, or in person at 133 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
