Jerry Ray Newcomb, Lewes native

Jerry Ray Newcomb, known to some as “Captain Kid,” passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022.

Jerry was born April 19, 1964, in Lewes, to Harold and Ethel Newcomb. He graduated from Greenville, Pa., in 1983, and worked for Delaware Bay Launch Services and with Capt. Jim White at Coastal Launch. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Newcomb. He leaves behind his mom, Ethel Newcomb; children, Naomi (Tim) DeGroat and Rachel (Peter) Reinsfelder; siblings, Jay (Christy) Newcomb and Jenny (Zach) Dittmar; granddaughter, Emily; and niece and nephews, Charlotte, Kaden and Cole.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 7, and Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made out to Torbert Funeral Chapels, 61 S Bradford St., Dover, DE 19904, to help defray funeral costs.
