Jo-Ann E. Smith, loved her family

Jo-Ann E. Smith, 80, of Gumboro passed away unexpectedly as a result of a car accident Wednesday, March 20, 2019.  

Mrs. Smith was born July 17, 1938, in Seaford.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne Smith in 2004; and a brother, Jack Bennett.

She worked for NCR as a machine inspector, and later was a poultry grower for many years.  She enjoyed driving, traveling, crocheting, holding yard sales, and spending time with her family which included her “favorite daughter Peaches, her Maltipoo.” In the mornings she could be found at the Millsboro McDonald’s where she and her friends would gather.  She will be remembered as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by three daughters, Tamara Carey (Roy) of Gumboro, Robin Tharp (Buddy) of Laurel and Susan McCumbee (Kenny) of Dagsboro.  She is also survived by six grandchildren: Dawn Roach (Jack), David Carey (Natasha), Joshua Messick, Ryan Messick, Teressa Davidson (Brian) and Corey Jones (Sarah).  She also leaves to cherish her memory five great-grandchildren: Brynn, Regan, Braven, Braxstyn and Rhett.  She is also survived by extended family and friends.

A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for viewing and visitation.  Burial will follow at Line Church Cemetery.
