John Francis Hyde III, loving husband, father
John “Jack” Francis Hyde III peacefully passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, after a long battle with cancer, with his wife and daughter at his side. Jack was born in Wilmington April 27, 1956, son of the late John F. Hyde and Carol Casey Hyde. He was a graduate of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Archmere Academy, and University of Delaware. Jack was an IT contractor for the State of Delaware, but most knew him from his years tending bar at the Bottle & Cork, Rusty Rudder, Lighthouse, and Irish Eyes.
Jack was a quiet and thoughtful man with a laser-sharp wit and a great sense of humor. A gracious host, Jack enjoyed grilling for others and sharing produce from his abundant gardens. He was a lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan, and spent many Sundays watching with a Casapulla’s sub or cheesesteak.
Jack was ever present at his daughter’s swim meets and lacrosse games. He loved the beaches of Delaware, and enjoyed surf-fishing and sitting by the ocean with his family and many friends. Above all else, Jack loved and adored his wife and daughter.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Denise DeAngelis Hyde; his daughter, Sarah Lauren Hyde (Spencer Lichtenberg); his sisters, M. Virginia Hyde and Carolyn A. Hyde; his brother, James C. Hyde (Whitney); mother-in-law, Judith DeAngelis; sister-in-law, Lauren DeAngelis (Bob Clarke); and brother-in-law, Christopher DeAngelis (Diana). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his niece, Carolyn Casey Hyde.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1, on the beach, bayside, on Van Dyke Avenue in Dewey Beach. Additional parking will be available in the Rusty Rudder parking lot. Some chairs will be provided but feel free to bring a beach chair.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Food Bank of Delaware, fbd.org/get-involved/donate-food-2; or Delaware Hospice, delawarehospice.org.
