John J. Russell, loved fishing, boating

John J. Russell, 60, of Long Neck passed away at his residence Wednesday March 17, 2021. 

Born Jan. 25, 1961, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Joseph Russell and Sharon McCartney, John spent most of his life in Maryland, and was a 1979 graduate of Glen Elg High School. After high school, John served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force where he was honorably discharged, and started his career as an electromagnetic engineer. John retired to Delaware where he has spent the last seven years. 

John had a love for both the Chesapeake and Delaware bays where he could be found fishing and boating.  In addition, John was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and member of AMVETS Post 2 in Long Neck. 

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his dear friend and neighbor, Fran Lewis. 

John is survived by his fiancée Jorene Slocum of Millsboro; daughter Samantha Russell of Maryland; sons Ryan of Colorado and Joseph Russell of North Dakota; and sisters Tracy and husband Dave of Virginia, and Kelly of Colorado. John also leaves behind his granddaughter Sailor.  

Cremation is private at the request of the family.
