John S. Salovich, industrial engineer

John S. Salovich, 88, of Bethany Beach, formerly of Norristown, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

He was born in Portage, Pa., Dec. 17, 1929, son of the late Alexander and Louise (Garbacz) Salovich.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he served as a Russian interpreter.  He attended Monterey School of Language for the Army and graduated from Rutgers University.

John retired as an industrial engineer with Unisys.  He was a past member of the Lord Baltimore Lions Club, a lifetime member of Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View, and a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.  He volunteered at Beebe Cardiac Rehab for 14 years.  He enjoyed golfing, reading, taking care of his family, and he faithfully prayed the rosary daily.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, LCDR Kathleen Salovich, USN, Ret.  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Josephine H. (Ibach) Salovich; a daughter, Suzanne Drewicz and her husband Guy of Richmond, Va.; and five grandchildren, Gary Dansereau II of Portland, Ore., Capt. Jessica Barnes, USAF and her husband Capt. Max Barnes, USAF of Beavercreek, Ohio, Alyssa Drewicz of Richmond, Va., Samuel Adam Drewicz of Richmond and John Thomas Drewicz of Richmond.  John is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Thomas Barnes and Ryan Barnes; and a brother, Donald Salovich and his wife Olga of New York.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m.  Interment with military honors will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
