John T. Hudson, worked in construction
Mr. John T. Hudson, 75, of Georgetown, better known to his friends and family as “Jack,” passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020.
Jack was born March 31, 1944, to the late William H. and Helen M. Jones Hudson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Catherine in 2015.
He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1962 and also attended Sussex Vocational and Technical Center where he learned a trade. This trade came in quite handy when he was allowed to take a car that he had a mishap with and the class repaired it. He was also a veteran of the Delaware National Guard. When he went to Texas for boot camp he took his first and last airplane ride, which he was never a fan of. So, when it was time for him to return home, he took a Greyhound bus which was a long journey from Texas. Once he made it home, he told his family and friends he would never ride that “dog” again.
Jack started out working as a heavy equipment operator for Melvin Joseph and Co. when they were building Dover Downs Raceway. During his work life he was employed by George & Lynch Co., the State of Delaware and A.P. Croll & Son.
He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and was a huge country music fan, especially old country. He maintained friendships with several high school classmates that lasted over the years. Jack was always known to his friends and family to be a very kind-hearted man who had a great sense of humor and was fun to be around. John was an animal lover, especially dogs, which he treated like his children. His sisters loved him dearly and will miss him, but they are grateful that he is now at peace, but with his passing he takes a little piece of their heart.
Jack is survived by two sisters, Melissa Warren and her husband Neil of Millsboro, and Janice Headley and her husband Charles also of Millsboro. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
