John ‘Jack’ Francis Boland, Hospice, Beebe volunteer

Mr. John "Jack" Francis Boland, 87, of Millsboro, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

Jack was born in Somerville, Mass., Aug. 21, 1929, to the late John Henry and Elizabeth M. Buttimer Boland. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife, June Boland in 2000; and a brother, William L. Boland.

He retired from the Army after serving 23 years. He served our country during both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post 28 and AMVets Post 2. Jack was quick witted with a dry sense of humor appreciated by those who knew him well. He was a generous, compassionate and caring man who volunteered with Delaware Hospice for 10 years, and also volunteered with Beebe Medical Center. He enjoyed keeping in touch by phone with his children, nieces and nephews.

He is survived by three children, Shelia Boland Fuller and her husband Michael of Cleveland, Tenn., Thomas Boland of Fayetteville, N.C., and Michelle Scott and her husband Michael of Raeford, N.C.; a sister, Denise McKenzie of Somerville; along with six grandchildren, Abbey, Elliot, Thomas Jr., Jonathan, Steven and Cameron; as well as two great-grandchildren. Jack is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., for viewing and visitation. Burial with military honors will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
