Kate McKenzie begins term as VIA president
For over 113 years, the Village Improvement Association has worked to support the greater Rehoboth Beach community.
As Kate McKenzie begins her presidency, the club is emerging from the national pandemic challenge, ready to continue its community outreach programs. Through world wars, financial crashes and pandemics, the VIA has been steadfast in helping others, and 2022 is no different.
Fortunately, McKenzie is well equipped to steer the organization as it moves forward. She has received numerous national honors and awards for her efforts, from her earliest work with the VIA to bring breast cancer screening to the community, and later when employed by Astra Zeneca.
Since becoming a full-time VIA member in 2011, McKenzie has served as recording secretary, second vice president and first vice president, and has held several committee chair positions. Her ideology is to learn from the past, assess the present and plan for the future, and to build on the VIA’s powerful history.
McKenzie’s Community Impact Program during her administration will be known as 115 Community Contributions in Our 115th Year. Her plan is that by the VIA’s 115th anniversary in 2024, the organization will have donated member volunteer power to 115 projects in the area.
“The present VIA members will be doing just what our founders did: provide improvements to our village through financial assistance and volunteer effort,” said McKenzie.
The Village Improvement Association of Rehoboth Beach is a women’s civic and charitable organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
