Matthew and Caroline Kozar, new parents from Richmond, Va., decided to introduce their daughter Irie to the world of breweries at a young age.
“We’ve always loved brewery hopping, and we wanted Irie to be acclimated to our world,” said Matthew Kozar. “We had heard so many stories about parents basically locking themselves in their house for the first two or three years after having a child, and we didn’t want that to be us. In the first few weeks of Irie’s life, we hit a decent amount of breweries and made a joke that we should hit 100 different breweries by the time she was 1 year old.”
Caroline said she made a list of the name, date and location of each brewery, and the couple decided they’d commit to #100by1 for #iriesadentures.
“We would laugh and say, ‘Irie needs to go to this brewery!” or “I mean, I guess we have to go because we need to make it to 100.”
Most of the breweries on the list are located in North Carolina and Virginia, but the couple knew they wanted to make No. 100 special. Matthew and his dad, Alan Kozar, love Dogfish Head Brewery, so the pair decided the Milton site would mark the very special occasion. Irie, now 10 months old, joined her parents on their brewery journey, and the trio arrived April 15 at Dogfish Head.
What happens next for the journey?
“We won’t be continuing this year,” said Caroline. “Matt did some quick math, and let’s just say this was a very expensive, but fun, little adventure.”
