Will remain a teacher of special education and pursue her master’s degree
March 21, 2018

Lauren Carra, the head coach of girls’ basketball at Cape Henlopen High School the last three seasons, has handed in a letter of resignation to Athletic Director Bob Cilento.

Carra plans to remain a teacher of special education at the high school and pursue her second master’s degree or her doctorate during the hours that were filled with coaching.

“With the decision to further my education, I will not be able to give the time needed to make the basketball program as successful as it could be,” Carra said. “The Cape Henlopen administration provided me with an incredible opportunity three years ago that I will be ever thankful for.”

Carra has a three-year record of 31-29 during her tenure as head coach. Her 12-8 mark in 2016-17 was her best season, as Cape advanced to the second round of the state tournament by beating Mt. Pleasant in the opening round before losing to Sanford in round two.

Carra’s letter will be presented to the Cape school board at an upcoming meeting.
