Lewes has lost its finest ambassador

October 25, 2024

We first met Ted Becker when we bought our home in Lewes 14 years ago. Ted welcomed us to the town and shared a little bit of history and not-to-be-missed local affairs. Ted made us feel like we were friends from the first moment we met. He was very kind, caring and genuine – and a new friend. We only found out later that Ted was the mayor!

We were down in Lewes only occasionally back then, but when our paths crossed at yard sales, Lewes shops and restaurants, or passing on the streets in Lewes, Ted always greeted us by our first names. Ted always had time to say hello and would eagerly give an update on the town’s activities. We so thoroughly enjoyed those conversations. His command of all things Lewes was unmatched. Ted was a guiding force of everything we value in Lewes.

Ted championed volunteerism. That is what makes Lewes a great place to live. It’s the people. The people he so deeply cared about. Ted had boundless energy and readily lent a hand to find solutions to any challenges people faced in Lewes. In one such instance, we shared with Ted that we were trying to help a neighbor under some stress. He put us in touch with one of his many contacts and told us they were ready to help our neighbor and were expecting our call. Ted quietly used his resources to help others who would never know they were touched by his helping hand.

Lewes lost its finest ambassador. Lewes lost its best friend.

We will miss Ted greatly, but are thankful every day for Ted’s legacy and lasting imprint in the town we now call home.

Our deepest sympathies to Joe.
