Lewes library to host annual book sale Sept. 30
The Friends of Lewes Public Library will hold their annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. More than 25,000 books will be available at prices starting at just $1. Credit cards will be accepted for purchases of $10 or more. A preview sale for Friends members only will be held 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29. Memberships can be purchased online or at the library prior to the sale or at the preview. Breakfast and snacks will be available for purchase Saturday in the Biblio Bistro at the library.
Because the Lewes area is rich with residents and visitors who love to read and who value books, the library receives an outstanding selection of donations. Hardcover and paperback books for sale include all genres of fiction, children's, science, home and garden, local interest, biography, history, and religion as well as other items such videos, DVDs, puzzles, audiobooks and games. The items will be sorted by category and there will be individual sections for popular authors such as James Patterson, John Grisham, Nora Roberts and Clive Cussler.
Pricing for the sale will be extremely competitive. Most hardcover books will be priced at $2 and pocket-sized paperbacks at $1. A special area will be devoted to high-value books such as antiquarian, art and photography, autographed books and rare items. Pricing for the high-value books averages 30-50 percent lower than internet prices.
This sale will have a special focus on history books. Approximately 3,000 books spanning ancient, modern and local history will be available for purchase.
"Our book sales are a don't-miss for residents and visitors, as well as collectors and dealers," says Candace Vessella, board president, Friends of the Lewes Public Library. "First-timers are astonished at the number and variety of books, as well as the fact that they are in such good condition.” She says that people in the Lewes area really appreciate books and tend to hold onto their favorites, but as residents downsize or books get left to estates, people look for a place to donate them where they'll make a difference, and they naturally think of the library, where a book they no longer want can help raise money to support library services. "We're delighted to pass these wonderful books on to people who will appreciate them and, in the process, raise much-needed funds for our library," said Vessella.
Proceeds of the fall book sale will benefit The Friends of the Lewes Public Library, a separate 501c3 affiliate of contributing members who support the Lewes Public Library. Proceeds will be used for book and media purchases, library programming, special projects and other library needs.
