The Lewes 8-10 minor league all-stars played with heart, but could not overcome Lower Sussex’s base running, as the boys from the First Town fell 10-0 July 5 in Laurel.
The Lewes squad outhit Lower Sussex 3-2 , but the boys couldn’t string together any runs.
The Lower Sussex squad started quickly and never looked back, scoring two in the bottom of the first inning and seven in the bottom of the second. Lower Sussex scored seven runs on just one hit in the second. A hit batter, two walks, a single and a ground out all helped knock in the seven scores. Lower Sussex added a run in the third to reach the final score after the fourth.
Brody Fazio, Preston Cleary and Shane Reynolds each tallied hits for Lewes.
Fazio started on the mound for the Lewes squad, allowing six runs on one hit. He walked six while striking out three batters. Graham Knowlton took over in the second, giving up one hit and four runs while striking out three.
“The team played their hearts out,” said Lewes manager Zach Fazio. “Unfortunately, we came up short this year. We got outstanding pitching performances from Preston Cleary, Graham Knowlton and Brody Fazio. Our hitting was led by Brody Fazio (.500), Finn Kane (.429), Preston Cleary (.429) and Joey Petito (.333) in three games. We had a great group of big boys and families, which always makes it fun. Little League all-stars is always a great experience for the boys that they will remember for the rest of their lives.”
