Local artists, businesses support Ukrainian relief

Frantic Frets owners raising money to aid victims in war-torn country
March 30, 2022

Mary “Frantic” Knight has roots in Ukraine, and she feels compelled to help out in any way she can to ease the suffering of people in the war-torn country.

Through Delmarva Artists for Ukrainian Relief, she and her husband Al, of Frantic Frets Music and Antiques near Milton, hope to raise $15,000 to purchase food, medical and personal hygiene supplies, and help secure housing for victims of the war. On March 27, several musicians donated their time to support the benefit by performing in the SmashMouth Lounge along Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach. SmashMouth Burgers donated 25 percent of their sales from burgers, and Big Chill Surf Cantina donated 20 percent of sales of specialty drinks to the cause.

Performers included Tyler Greene, Cooper Fenton, Keenan Williams, Al Frantic and Ken Schleifer.

The money will be used to support a volunteer effort established by a California couple who have set up a warehouse for supplies with a network of volunteer drivers who deliver the goods in the hardest-hit areas in Ukraine. “They are risking their own lives to help others who have lost everything and have been cut off from the world. These people are true heroes,” Mary said.

Donation checks for Ukrainian relief can be made out to Mary Knight and mailed to Frantic Frets, 26374 Broadkill Road, Milton, DE 19968, or donate at franticfrets.com.
