Local stylists study under colorist Kim Vo

Amy Pyne, owner of Zen Salon & Wellness, in the Villages of Five Points Shopping Center, recently attended a hair-color program in Baltimore, with one of Hollywood's celebrity hair colorists, Kim Vo.

Vo is one of the most sought-after hair color experts in the world, with celebrity clients including Kate Hudson, Brittney Spears and Jessica Biel. Pyne said some might recognize him for his work on the Bravo TV show, "Shear Genius" or "Extreme Makeover." He has also been featured in many magazine articles.

In this exclusive Best of Blonding Program, Vo introduced current color techniques that Hollywood celebrity's are craving. A couple of Pyne's favorites are the ombre technique, which she said is one of the hottest trends right now.

It is performed with a darker root area and lighter highlights toward the ends. Pyne said she feels this is a trendy, low-maintance look that means there are fewer touch-ups required. Vo also demonstrated his baliage highlighting technique. Pyne said baliage, which has been around for quite some time, is a free-hand form of painting highlights on to hair and more designer way of highlighting. Stylists can place lighter pieces exactly where they want them, which makes for especially good framing and accentuating the face.
