An annual highlight for members of the Lord Baltimore Lions Club comes every August when they have the opportunity to cook dinners for Special Olympic athletes enjoying activities at Camp Barnes near Frankford.
The Lions grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers and hot dogs for one group Aug. 7 and another session’s campers Aug. 15.
Both evenings, the Lions fed nearly nearly 100 people including athletes, staff and various volunteers.
David Halley, Special Olympics Delaware’s new president and CEO, was on hand to greet and thank the 15 Lions who worked sessions. Good weather both days and the newly renovated dining hall made the meals even more enjoyable.
In addition to supporting national causes like vision, diabetes awareness, hunger relief, the environment, youth development and fighting childhood cancer, the Lord Baltimore Lions strive to remain active in supporting local causes like Special Olympics Delaware. The club comprises adult men and women who are interested in serving to help and better the lives of citizens in the community.
