Louise Martha Morris, enjoyed caring for birds

January 25, 2017

Louise Martha (Schmidt) Morris passed away in Lewes, Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. Louise was born in Madison, Neb., Aug. 9, 1931, youngest daughter of the late Herman Schmidt and Louise Rhode Schmidt.

Louise graduated from high school in Fremont, Neb., where she later attended Midland Lutheran College. In the early 1950s Louise moved to Washington, D.C. and worked at the National Bureau of Standards Laboratory, and later at the Dental Research Laboratory of the National Institute of Health.

Her hobby was the care and feeding of birds and animals, and while living in Washington she was noted for attracting and feeding mockingbirds and other birds at her open fourth-floor dining room windowsill along a busy avenue. Such care and feeding continued in later years in Rehoboth Beach in the trees and shrubs at her home.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Hayden Morris; as well as two sisters, Ruth Schmidt and Ada Jones; and was predeceased by one sister, Beata Schmidt; and three brothers, Alfred, Herman and Louis Schmidt.

Memorial Services will be held Sunday, Jan. 29, at 3 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Interment will be held at a later date in Vermont.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Louise's name to the charity of one’s choice.
