Lupo di Mare Women & Wine event raises funds for CHEF

December 22, 2014

It’s not often that one can enjoy clam brodo with chickpeas, tomato and basil, and raise money for education at the same time. But that is what happened at the Nov. 20 Lupo di Mare Women & Wine dinner.

A portion of the ticket sales from the dinners, held monthly at the Rehoboth Beach restaurant in the off-season, go to a charity, as do the proceeds from a 50-50 raffle. In November, the dinner raised $750 for the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation, which develops resources and increases community awareness for the Cape Henlopen School District. CHEF funds programs that directly affect teachers and students but do not typically receive district monies. CHEF also offers individual student grants for extracurricular initiatives in the performing arts.

“We know firsthand about the good things that CHEF does for the schools in the Cape Henlopen School District, particularly in the area of arts education,” said Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts. “We are happy to raise money for CHEF.”

The donation was distributed through Global Fund Delaware, the nonprofit founded by Matt Haley and Scott Kammerer, and the check was presented to CHEF at Rehoboth Elementary School.

“CHEF is thrilled to accept this generous donation,” said Alyssa Titus, development director for CHEF. “SoDel Concepts' and Global Delaware Fund's continued support helps us provide funding for programs that create a healthy, productive education experience for students. Plus, the Women & Wine event was so fun to attend. The food was delicious.”

Along with the clam brodo, made with local seafood, diners enjoyed bruschetta with fresh ricotta, balsamic vinegar and roasted grapes; endive salad with walnuts and a red wine vinaigrette; and pumpkin tiramisu.

This is the sixth year for Women & Wine, which includes a reception and a four-course dinner paired with complementary wines. Each month, the dinner benefits a different charity. For information on the next event, call 302-226-2240.
